Bride and Groom Wedding Speeches

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life and so it makes sense that you would want it to be as perfect as possible. So much time, effort and money is put into this one day. You have cakes, dresses/suits, a guest list, flowers, the venue and transportation to arrange to name just a few. With so much to arrange it is easy to forget one important feature of the wedding – the speeches.

When you think about wedding speeches you mainly think of the best man or the father of the bride. However, did you know that both the bride and the groom (well at least the grooms) also have to make a speech at the reception?

What the Bride and Groom Speeches Should Include

The Bride and Groom Speeches are not as common as the best man and father of the bride speeches; however they can still be just as important.

If you are the bride and you want to make a speech then generally you should mention how happy you are to be marrying the groom. You should also thank your parents for supporting you (and possibly paying for your big day).

It would be a good idea to mention how wonderful your new in-laws are too. If you had help organizing the wedding then you may want to thank all who helped out. Finally you may want to also thank the bridesmaids too. These are the main points to keep in mind when you create your speech. If you are struggling on what to say then a good opener could include:

“Good evening everyone. I just wanted to take this time to thank each and every one of you for attending and helping me to celebrate the happiest day of my life.”

The above is a traditional opening though you could make it more humorous by stating how little you knew about wedding planning and how stressful it can be! Perhaps joking about how crazy it has made you over the past few months may also go down well :)

If you are the groom and you want to make a speech, firstly you should state your happiness at marrying your beautiful bride. Next you should thank your parents for their love and support before moving on to the best man.

You could mention things that you and your best man have been through together including funny stories. It would be a good idea to thank your in-laws and how happy you are to be joining their family. Finally you should say how you can’t wait to spend the rest of your life with your new bride. If you are struggling to find an opener for your speech then you could try:

“I’m going to open this speech by thanking everybody for being here on behalf of both my lovely new wife and myself.”

Again the above is a traditional opening but you could also opt for something a little more humorous.

Overall the bride and groom wedding speeches are about thanking all of your guests for attending the wedding. It gives you both a chance to say how much you love each other and how happy you are to be extending your family.
