Dance floor party

You’ve chosen a reliable, professional and experienced DJ who suits your style of wedding.

He will know you don’t want him to play cheesy, tactless songs. You want fun, upbeat tunes to keep the dance floor moving.

But your input is still vital! Do be certain to provide your DJ approximately three lists.

1. Must Play Songs

The first should have approximately 20-30 songs that are “must plays.”

2. Play if You Can Songs

The second list has another 20 songs that are “play if you can” choices.

3. Do Not Play Songs

And on the third list, write down a few of your “do not play” songs and genres.

Some people will want to Gangnam Style and some people are way too cool for PSY shenanigans.

You should give your entertainment or DJ a little flexibility with the number of dancing songs you expect him to play.

Insisting on more than 20 songs (excluding your special songs, of course) really limits his ability to respond to the crowd’s mood.

If your entertainer is experienced and professional, he will know how to get your guests grooving-that’s what you hired him for!

Song Requests

Your DJ will know how to handle anyone who comes to him with a request for a song that’s on the “do not play” list. He’ll generally say something like “I’ll see if I have it” or “I’ll play it if I can get to it.”

As the night moves along, people prefer a musical plateau, dancing to the more upbeat, Easy Listening songs.

And they get happy with familiar songs, songs that they can join in singing the most popular verses.

You don’t want to overdo them, but leave the actual mix of songs up to your entertainment, who should know very well how to do this.

There are literally millions of great songs available – but only a handful that will move your special wedding day.

Keep in mind you only have room for 120 – 150 songs at standard 6 hour event.

Having an iPod / iTunes Playlist Wedding

Just remember, an iPod / iTunes Playlist wedding consists of 4 or 5 of your friends standing around arguing over what song to play next – whilst the dancefloor empties.

If you can budget for it – Hire a Professional DJ.

Over the past ten years, spent entertaining at wedding receptions and all kinds of parties, my associates and I have assembled a list of some of most popular wedding party songs below.

Shazam Tag Charts

The best thing about the Shazam tag chart is it’s up to date, live and a good reflection of what people are enjoying – not what commercial radio stations want you to hear.
